With over 150 works on view, Spazi Altri (Other Spaces) traces the work of Olivo Barbieri during his trips to China over the course of 30 years. The exhibition is a tribute to the work of one of the most innovative and original minds of international photography. Barbieri made his first trip to China in 1989 and returned regularly until 2019. From the beginning of his explorations, Barbieri sensed the scope of the social, economic, and cultural transformations that would affect China and these works address the unexpected and large scale architectural and urban changes that occured there. Barbieri uses long exposures, artificial lighting, vertical shots, saturated colors, and a selective focus that transforms reality into an avatar of itself. He highlights the unpredictable and mysterious changes in China, exploring themes of identity, sustainability, migration, new technologies, and artificial intelligence that involve all of humanity.
